Supreme Master Ching Hai Sends Congratulations to South Korea’s New President

Supreme Master Ching Hai congratulated His Excellency Moon Jae-in, the elected president of South Korea, in a letter written on May 10, Golden Year 14 (2017).

The son of North Korean refugees, President Moon promoted democracy as a student activist. He then became a human rights lawyer defending disadvantaged workers. He later served as the chief of staff to South Korean President His Excellency Roh Moo-hyun, who was president from 2003-2008.

Domestically, President Moon vowed to make society fairer and to create 500,000 new jobs per year. He further pledged to prioritize transparency in the government, work to build national unity, and be a leader for all Koreans. He received global attention for his preference for dialogue and economic relations with North Korea.

In Her letter, Supreme Master Ching Hai expressed Her support for President Moon’s ideals of peace and conciliation on the Korean Peninsula. She also praised positive aspects of South Korea based on Her many visits holding lectures and retreats in the country.
