Dr. Jay Grossman of Homeless Not Toothless Receives Shining World Compassion Award

By Los Angeles, USA News Group (Originally in English)

Homeless Not Toothless (HNT) is a Los Angeles, California, USA, non-profit organization whose mission is “raising the pride and dignity of Veterans, the homeless, foster youth, and underserved through quality dental services” and “providing access to becoming part of the mainstream work force again.” Dr. Grossman and his team of volunteer dental providers have given away free dental care to homeless veterans and civilians alike as well as foster children for nearly three decades.

Homeless Not Toothless was given the Shining World Compassion Award by Supreme Master Ching Hai along with a kind donation of US$15,000. The founder and president, Dr. Jay Grossman, lovingly referred to as “Dr. J” by his staff and patients, graciously invited us to his headquarters and dental office. Members from the Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association from Los Angeles visited the site on March 6, 2019. Upon arrival, we presented the staff with vegan chocolates and everyone had a good laugh about working at a place that reminds them to brush their teeth! Dr. Grossman was given a set of Supreme Master Ching Hai’s books and DVDs and other material. He was in awe of all the endeavors Master has undertaken.

Prior to the Award Letter, Plaque and ceremonial check presentation, we interviewed Dr. Grossman. The compassionate dentist shared with us some of the miracles he has personally experienced during the 27-plus years leading Homeless Not Toothless in its mission to bring dental care to the disadvantaged in the greater LA area. “I didn’t want to take care of today, I wanted to take care of tomorrow. So by giving them teeth and getting them out of pain and having them look good so they could interview for a job, and being able to eat and properly nourish themselves, they can now sustain themselves for a lifetime. That’s how Homeless Not Toothless got started.” Through this connection, Dr. Grossman’s Homeless Not Toothless expanded their free dental care services to foster children in the Los Angeles area. “The last 3 years, they’ve treated over 15,000 kids for free.” He was filled with emotion while recalling the stories. Dr. Grossman graciously thanked Master and expressed his highest gratitude during the award ceremony. He went on to say that this timely donation will cover the entire cost of an upcoming free dental care to homeless veterans.

After the Award presentation, Dr. Grossman was so touched that he said he would like all clinic visitors to read the beautiful, heart-warming letter. He said that it was the best and most well-written letter he has ever received and placed it on his reception counter for all who enter to see. Moreover, he put the Award Plaque on the top shelf of his display case.

We would like to express our sincere admiration to Homeless Not Toothless (HNT) and we pray more compassionate endeavors like this will evolve the world over, with God’s love in abundance.
