Spontaneous Concert at Loving Hut Ethiopia
On the evening of March 12, Golden Year 13 (2016), a spontaneous, small concert took place at the Loving Hut restaurant in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. A vegan singer from China and local African musicians presented a joyful program of songs with guitars and percussion instruments, including a lotus drum. They played reggae and hip-hop including classic pieces such as “One Love” by Bob Marley as well as original tracks by local musicians. As the evening progressed, the audience and musicians on stage started to dance together, attracting passersby to stop and watch.
After the concert, the musicians enjoyed a vegan meal served by Loving Hut. It was a religious fasting period in Ethiopia, so many guests who were on the plant-based diet during this time were very appreciative of the delicious vegan food prepared by the restaurant, one of whom was a young Ethiopian singer who has been a vegetarian for many years. Another musician couple was vegan, and their four children who have been vegan since birth looked exceptionally healthy and lovely.
While enjoying the gourmet food, the guests shared their experiences of a meat-free lifestyle. The staff at Loving Hut thanked God for the opportunity to bring so many people together in love and joy. They hoped to spread this joyful energy far and wide to all corners of the world.

Loving Hut Restaurant Featured in What’s Out! ADDIS Magazine
What’s Out! ADDIS is a travel magazine about events and places in the capital of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa, with 40,000 readers each month. One of the magazine’s journalists, Ms. Arabella Stewart, came to dine at the Loving Hut Ethiopia following a recommendation from her friend. After enjoying various vegan foods, including a hamburger and chocolate cake, she asked the staff about the ideal of the restaurant. Later she wrote an article introducing Loving Hut restaurants to foreign tourists. It was featured in the March issue of What’s Out! ADDIS magazine.
She wrote,
“…on the two occasions I have visited, the tables have been full of lunchtime diners including office workers from the area – this soy-based food…is a new taste sensation experience for many Ethiopians, but the diners I spoke with had become regulars, and fans of this vegan cuisine, offering both a change and an alternative to traditional legume-based dishes during the fasting season.”
The article was very positive. Copies of the magazine were distributed to different consulates, as well as to many big restaurants and hotels. The Loving Hut staff members are deeply grateful for the supportive coverage by What’s Out! ADDIS.
