On October 1, Golden Year 13 (2016), about 30 of our local Association members attended the Autumn Beach Cleanup in Wai-Mu-Shan, Keelung City, Formosa as part of Keelung Harbor 130th Anniversary activities. The event was organized by the Keelung Environmental Protection Bureau.
Keelung Mayor Mr. Lin Yu-Chang and Minister of Taiwan’s Environmental Protection Administration Mr. Lee Ying-Yuan led 550 volunteers from various organizations in cleaning up around 500 kilograms of garbage from the beach. The groups, which included Taiwan Power Company Hsieh-ho Power Plant, The Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association and The Rainy Port Keelung Red Cross Rescue Team, returned the beach to the state it was before the recent typhoon.
Keelung Mayor Mr. Lin Yu-Chang awarded two Certificates of Recognition to The Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association for participating in the eco project. One of the certificates was a special one for being part of the 130th anniversary cleanup.
In addition to helping to beautify the beaches, The Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association was among several groups to participate in adopting a beach area, with the responsibility for keeping it clean.
The picturesque coastline and the natural scenery are gifts of Formosa. The ocean is the source of all lives on Earth. We sincerely plea to all citizens to keep the beaches clean. Apart from removing garbage from the beach, please make sure to sort and recycle it as well.
