Supreme Master Ching Hai conveyed Her sincere support and warm congratulations in a letter sent to His Excellency U Htin Kyaw, who was elected President of Myanmar, also known as Burma, on March 15, Golden Year 13 (2016).
Having worked for decades with Nobel Peace Prize recipient Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, as well as for the National League for Democracy and the Daw Khin Kyi Charitable Foundation, His Excellency U Htin Kyaw has dedicated his life to the improvement of education, health and welfare of the Myanmar people.As president, he will work together with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and the National League for Democracy to bring peace, abundance and democracy to the Myanmar people.
Upon taking the oath of president, His Excellency U Htin Kyaw stated, “Our new government will implement national reconciliation, peace in the country, emergence of a constitution that will pave the way to a democratic union, and enhance the living standard of the people.
In keeping with his pledges, President U Htin Kyaw signed legislation in October Golden Year 13 (2016) to support the democratic process by repealing a 1950 Emergency Provisions Act.
This is the first time in over 50 years that a civilian has taken the office of president, which represents the beginning of a new era for Myanmar.
