On April 1, Golden Year 15 (2018), His Excellency Carlos Alvarado Quesada was elected as Costa Rica’s new president.
Before his political career, the talented President-elect Alvarado Quesada has been known as a lead singer of a rock band, a published novelist, and an experienced journalist. He entered government in order to make a positive difference in people’s lives, which he did as Minister of Human Development and Social Inclusion, and later as Minister of Labor and Social Security, among other positions. For instance, he helped establish a state-of-the-art school in an underserved area.
Upon his election, His Excellency said, “Costa Rica is an amazing country and we want to not only preserve its great democracy, its peaceful nature, its respect for the environment and human rights, but we also want to move Costa Rica forward.”
His Excellency, promising to allow gay marriage, stated, “We’re going to work for everyone and we won’t discriminate against anyone. We will protect all groups that have felt vulnerable…people with disabilities, people with different sexual orientations.”
Other goals of President-elect Alvarado Quesada’s administration are to create more jobs, strengthen tourism, foster competitiveness in production, and further stabilize the economy.
