After our Association members offered relief assistance to victims of the devastating earthquake in Ecuador in April 2016, our Ecuador Association members had the opportunity to do more to help our fellow citizens recuperate from the catastrophe. In September 2016, we sent US$1,000 to Hearts of Gold Foundation to support its Proyecto Samán, a disaster recovery and community-rebuilding project helping 35 families in Canoa, Ecuador, one of the towns that was hardest hit by the earthquake.
The contribution will help provide spacious, temporary shelters for the families, ecological bathrooms, showers, fully functioning electric and water systems, community garden terraces and a community dispensary.
On September 23, a representative from the Hearts of Gold Foundation sent us a letter expressing their deep appreciation, saying, “Your support has been vital in providing a safe place where families can develop their potential and transition from a place of vulnerability to empowerment.”
