On September 15, 2015, the Honorable Malcolm Turnbull was officially proclaimed by a parliamentary vote to serve as Australia’s 29th Prime Minister.
The Honorable Malcolm Turnbull’s first acts as Prime Minister can attest to his dedication to ensuring safer, more comfortable lives for Australians. He endorsed a $100 million (AUD) safety package for women and children, in hopes of ending domestic violence by advocating greater attitudes of respect towards others from a young age through the website Safer Schools, and providing protection for those suffering in these cases through new technologies and funding for support services. He also brought into effect the National Disability Insurance Scheme, with the goal of giving more support to those living with a disability, their families and caregivers.
During the latest climate conference in Paris, Prime Minister Turnbull also showed his support for sustainable technologies, stating, “…it is innovation and technology which will enable us both to drive stronger economic growth and a cleaner environment.” In addition, he pledged to invest at least $1 billion (AUD) within the next four years in an Innovation Statement, which includes funding for energy and climate science researchers at universities and leading science institution, CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation).
