Happy Moon Festival!

September 15, Golden Year 13 (2016)

Believed to be the biggest and brightest full moon of the year, the brilliant Harvest Moon has been honored for over three millennia. This Mid-Autumn Festival or Moon Festival occurs on the 15th day of the eighth month on the traditional Chinese calendar.

The Moon Festival is celebrated in Âu Lạc, China, Formosa, Hong Kong, Korea, Macau, and the Philippines, and by many Asian communities around the world, with a variety of traditions. Some of the customs include enjoying reunions with family, lighting lanterns, sharing fruits and delicious vegan mooncakes with loved ones, honoring family ancestors, gazing at the beautiful Moon, and expressing gratitude to the Moon for all her gifts.

Supreme Master Ching Hai has on a number of occasions told stories of Her special connection with the Moon. During a gathering on the 2015 Moon Festival, She shared some of the benefits the Moon brings to those of us living on Earth, and noted that She often gives thanks to the Moon.

We must give thanks to the Moon. Because of the Moon, our planet exists. Truly. No, what I mean is the combination. The Moon stays where it is so that we have a life here, understand? Everything is balanced. Therefore we have life on this planet. Okay? We truly must thank the Moon. I thank the Moon all the time. For life-saving spirit.  For life-saving energy.”

We express our deep gratitude to Supreme Master Ching Hai for helping us to understand the magnificent Moon has so much to offer. We also give our sincere thanks and appreciation to the Moon for your beauty and all you do to keep our lives in balance.

Best wishes to all beings for a wonderful and joyous Moon Festival!
