Love In Action

Master is always deeply concerned when disasters occur in any part of the world. Upon hearing news of such events, She immediately provides financial assistance and sends relief teams. Through such efforts, Her unconditional love and support are conveyed to those affected, thus reducing their suffering while helping them to rebuild their lives.

In recognition of the selfless actions of governments, organizations and relief workers around the globe, Master expresses Her gratitude as follows: "Thank you, all the international help that brings care and necessities to afflicted victims. Thank you all the relief workers for taking time and forsaking your own comfort, even traveling great distance on unfavorable roads and conditions to bring love and assistance to people in a time of need. May Heaven bless you abundantly for your generosity and noble sacrifice."

Caring for the Homeless and their Precious Animal Companions

By News Group (Originally in English)

The Pongo Fund, based in Portland, Oregon, USA, is an award-winning charity whose volunteers have saved the lives of more than 175,000 animals by providing them with free, high-quality food and veterinary care. The Fund along with its Pet Food Bank were founded by Mr. Larry Chusid, who was already feeding homeless people in his spare time. When he realized that hungry people have hungry pets – and with inspiration from Pongo, his dog companion of 19 years – he transitioned to feeding and caring for animals in need.

The Pongo Fund Vetmobile provides free, life-saving care for hundreds of animals each year thanks to a network of dedicated veterinarians and medical professionals. On board are two surgical units, dental equipment, full laboratory, digital X-ray, pharmacy, and more.

When food and funds are limited, families are often faced with choosing between feeding themselves or their pets. In the course of his work, Mr. Chusid has met homeless and low-income people who chose to go hungry so that their pets could eat something. But lack of food that is suitable for the animal will contribute to more serious problems later, such as health issues and humans not being able to keep their beloved animal companions. The Pongo Fund allows people and pets to stay together, thus reducing animal shelter populations and making for happier lives.

When Supreme Master Ching Hai learned of the selfless work that Mr. Chusid and The Pongo Fund are doing, She was deeply touched, benevolently donating US$15,000 “with the most humble gratitude for their noble work to assist the homeless and their pet-friends.”

On September 30, 2018 representatives from the Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association met with Mr. Chusid at The Pongo Fund Pet Food Bank for the presentation and an inspiring interview. Mr. Chusid expressed his profound gratitude for Master’s recognition of his mission, and shared several touching stories about how he has received inner guidance, and sometimes outer benediction from complete strangers. He was also very pleased to receive two of Supreme Master Ching Hai’s books, “The Dogs in My Life” and “The Noble Wilds,” as well as the “Loving the Silent Tears” Deluxe Gift Set.

Thank you, Mr. Larry Chusid and The Pongo Fund, for your wonderful and compassionate care of the vulnerable and their treasured animal companions.
