Cowspiracy: Veganism Is Vital If We Want a Future on Earth

Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret, released in 2014, with the updated version exclusively released on Netflix in September 2015, is a powerful, eye-opening documentary which has inspired people to become vegan by helping us understand the catastrophic level of environmental destruction caused by the livestock industry, and that embracing a vegan diet worldwide is the best way to counter that destruction thereby avoiding a global calamity.

Cowspiracy also explores why the public is not aware that consuming animal products plays a greater role in climate change than the global transportation industry, as well as the fact that factory farming is one of the most significant causes of deforestation, water usage and pollution, and species loss.

The film follows Kip Andersen, who states he had his “environmental awakening” after watching the Academy Award-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth, which features former US Vice President Al Gore’s campaign of informing people around the world about the imminent threats of climate change. Ultimately, Mr. Gore was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his very important work of bringing global warming and its causes to the public’s attention. The documentary inspired Mr. Andersen to embrace a series of lifestyle changes to reduce his individual impact on the planet. He began recycling, riding his bike instead of driving, and taking shorter showers to conserve water.

In spite of all these steps taken towards a more sustainable way of living, Mr. Andersen came to realize that these changes were insignificant compared to the role his diet was playing in environmental destruction. He began to explore why leading environmental groups were not letting people know that the livestock and fishing industries, along with the demand for animal products, are the leading causes of environmental destruction. He further investigates and concludes that the only real solution for protecting our ecosphere is the global embrace of the vegan diet.

Mr. Andersen’s partner in filmmaking is Keegan Kuhn, an award-winning documentarian with a passion for social justice. Acclaimed Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Davisson and Appian Way Productions were the executive producers of the film.

The documentary can be viewed via Netflix, or purchased and downloaded at www.cowspiracy.com, with subtitles offered in many languages. DVDs can also be sent to customers. Those interested in hosting screenings can also purchase a license for public viewing and list the upcoming screenings on their website.

Our sincere gratitude, Kip Andersen, Keegan Kuhn, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Davisson, Appian Way Productions and all those involved in the making of Cowspiracy. May the vegan message continue to grow through films like yours as more people realize that a plant-based, compassionate lifestyle is vital for protecting our planet and all our co-inhabitants.
