As global warming has become an increasing threat to humanity, saving the planet is a crucial issue for all of us. Throughout Formosa, individuals and groups have been advocating the vegan diet to halt global warming and save the inhabitants of Earth.
An enthusiastic young Formosan man and president of the Animal Liberation Front at National Taiwan Normal University, Dai Yu-Sheng, has been promoting the compassionate vegan lifestyle through the lecture “Three Untold Stories of Marine Museums and Farms.” Since 2015, Mr. Dai has been speaking at more than 20 campuses on the island, including National Cheng-Kung University, National Yunlin University of Science and Technology, Chung Yuan Christian University, National Taipei University, Fu Jen Catholic University, National Chung-Hsing University, Hung Kuang University, National Hsingchu University of Education, and National Taiwan Normal University. The purpose of his lectures is to encourage college students to change their dietary habits, replacing meat diets with the plant-based ones to mitigate the crisis of global warming.
On May 31, Golden Year 13 (2016), Mr. Dai gave a lecture at National Taiwan Normal University. During his speech, he said, “As long as we live, we affect the world and the beings living on it. You can choose a vegan way of life, which will benefit the animals and reduce the harm done to our Earth.” At the end of the seminar, all the participants pledged to protect animal rights and the Earth, which is suffering with a fever, by being vegan. To support the Animal Liberation Front lecture, our Taipei Association members acted as a sponsor and provided 40 vegan hamburgers and 10 staff lunch boxes, and filmed the whole lecture.
Also promoting the diet of kindness in Formosa was a vegan fair, the Taipei Vegan Frenzy (TVF), on June 3, Golden Year 13 (2016). This three-day event, in which our Association members participated, was held at a vegetarian restaurant across the street from National Taiwan Normal University. It was organized by the fashion designer Sidney Hsu, who founded TVF, and held the first TVF in December of Golden Year 12 (2015). TVFs are scheduled more than once per year.
At the Taipei Vegan Frenzy, our Association members and other participants offered vegan food, also displaying cruelty-free clothing and shoes, women’s accessories, bags and purses, cosmetics, natural plant-based shampoos, etc. All of the participants involved who were displaying vegan products had the same ideal of solving the planetary crisis by adopting the simple, vegan lifestyle. They came from Kaohsiung, Taichung, Taoyuan, and Taipei. Uniting with one heart for the love of the planet and our animal co-inhabitants, and with one goal of promoting the vegan and peaceful way of life, they called for the public to take personal responsibility to “save the Earth and protect our home.”
We are very impressed by the enthusiastic participation of many young friends. If everyone keeps the vegan diet, then a peaceful vegan world will be realized!
