The Supreme Master Ching Hai
Supreme Master Ching Hai conveyed Her deepest condolences to His Excellency Lee Hsien Loong, the Prime Minister of Singapore, and his family on the loss of his esteemed father, the revered founding father of Singapore, on March 23, 2015. His Excellency Lee Kuan Yew, born September 16, 1923, was an internationally respected statesman who was renowned for his outstanding leadership and deep concern for the future of the Singaporean people. A visionary beyond his time, he transformed Singapore.
The longest-serving prime minister in history, His Excellency was in office from 1959-1990, and is credited with making Singapore the most prosperous nation in Southeast Asia during his tenure. Instrumental in the establishment of Singaporean self-governance, he presided over changes to the constitution enabling independence. His Excellency led an unparalleled recovery by implementing a plan to rebuild the nation through housing construction, educational reform, increased rights for women and export-based manufacturing. He also initiated a bilingual policy in the country to bring about more global opportunities for Singaporean citizens while maintaining their cultural identity. After leaving office in 1990, His Excellency continued his commitment to Singaporeans as an advisor to the government. Also, he became a dedicated meditator in later life, and when asked about a campaign to encourage people to eat more vegetarian foods, he replied, “I’m all for it.”
His Excellency Lee Kuan Yew was a shining example of integrity and dedication. Under his wise stewardship he led not only Singapore but also the entire region into peace and stability.
