German Ministry Bans Meat to Protect the Environment

By News Group (Originally in English)

The German Federal Environment Ministry has stopped serving meat at all official functions due to the high amount of environmental damage incurred by livestock production. Environment Minister Barbara Hendricks emphasized that the ministry must be a good role model. The ministry stated, “We want to set a good example for climate protection, because vegetarian food is more climate-friendly than meat and fish.”

In addition, the ministry mandated that the ingredients of the meals should be organically sourced and preferably seasonal, local and fair trade in a further effort to reduce the carbon footprint of their food, and to support local farmers. The ban became effective at the end of January 2017.

The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development also took heed of their actions and stated that it has asked its caterers to “significantly reduce the amount of meat and fish in their menus.”

Our heartfelt appreciation, Minister Barbara Hendricks and the German Federal Environment Ministry for setting a shining example through your ban on meat by leading the way into the Golden Age and acting compassionately toward our planet, animal friends and the people of Mother Earth.
