The Supreme Master Ching Hai
On October 19, Golden Year 12 (2015), the Honorable Justin Trudeau won Canada’s vote to lead as the country’s 23rd prime minister.
As the son of former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau, the Honorable Justin Trudeau followed in his father’s footsteps after a background in secondary school teaching, and won the election at age 43, becoming the second youngest Prime Minister to lead Canada. He credits his victory to a commitment to meeting with and listening to his co-citizens and promises to lead with respect to all people of Canada, noting in his victory speech that the new government “believes deeply in the diversity of our country,” and knows that “Canada was built by people from all corners of the world who worship every faith, who belong to every culture, who speak every language.”
After the COP 21 climate conference in Paris in November and December of 2015, Prime Minister Trudeau also stated his pledge to take vital action on the changing climate, which includes supporting and implementing policies that contribute to a low-carbon economy, and to help developing countries tackle the adverse consequences of climate change.
Furthermore, the Honorable Justin Trudeau pledged to take in more Syrian refugees, 25,000 by January 2016, and provide funds to quicken the application process. More than 26,000 refugees have arrived in Canada as of May 10, 2016 and the Government of Canada has a special section on its website devoted to welcoming them.
Supreme Master Ching Hai sent the above letter addressed to the Honorable Justin Trudeau, in congratulations for his position as Canada’s new Prime Minister, and to thank him for his noble commitments as he leads Canada with positive changes towards a brighter future.
