Musical genius and 25-time Grammy Award winning artist Stevie Wonder celebrates being vegan while being honored with a Global Green Hero Award in California, USA. One of the most influential recording artists of the past 50 years, the iconic musician made public in October 2015 that he has embraced the plant-based diet starting in 2014.
Stevland Hardaway Morris, best known to fans around the world as Stevie Wonder, spoke about his diet and support for fighting climate change to media company AOL at the 2016 Global Green USA’s Annual Pre-Oscar Party on February 24 in Beverly Hills, at which he gave a special VIP performance. He stated, “We have to be about making our planet more greener, the urban areas more sustainable for the children. We can’t just talk about it, we have to be about it.”
He joked, “I’ve been a vegan for two years, so that’s helped my already good-looking self.” Mr. Wonder also explained that adopting a vegan lifestyle was a part of what he was doing to save the planet, saying, “I’m motivating people to do something about how we are living on this planet.” He is deeply committed to using his immense talent to improving our world. He said, “You know it is only possible to be able to have the blessing of song through the fact that God has given me life, and the only way we can have life is by perpetuating life in how we live.”
During the event, after the “You Are the Sunshine of My Life” singer was given The Global Green Hero Award, he quickly passed the award to his two youngest sons, who were with him at the event, charging them with encouraging their own generation to care for the world. He stated, “We have to make sure that we can sustain the planet and make sure that people are able to survive as it has always been meant to be.”
