Always concerned about the comfort of others especially during the cold winter, Supreme Master Ching Hai asked our Association members to help make sure homeless monastics and others in need around the world stay warm, with funds provided upon request.
In December 2012, inspired by Supreme Master Ching Hai’s benevolent instruction, a relief team from the Bangkok Center in Thailand spent five days traveling to Phayao, Chiang Rai and Nan provinces, where they purchased blankets, warm hats and socks and distributed the items to 100 monks in 20 temples. The team also supplied warm clothing to 50 homeless people.
The following month, our team members traveled north to a region that is home to many hill-tribe monks, and at Srisoda Temple in Chiang Mai Province presented warm blankets to the 80 resident monks.
The relief team spent a total of US$2,626 (equivalent to 78,780 Thai baht) on the relief work. The sum of US$570 remaining from Supreme Master Ching Hai’s contribution for earlier relief work in Myanmar was added to the funds provided by the Bangkok Center (US$2,056).
