During the winter of 2012-2013, following Supreme Master Ching Hai’s request to help those in need, our Association members from Montreal Center sought to provide relief to the community’s homeless individuals.
Fortunately, in Montreal, Canada, organizations exist to help vulnerable people by offering them food and a place to sleep. The largest and oldest of these groups, the Old Brewery Mission, was founded nearly 125 years ago to assist the poor by providing them with warm meals. Since then it has expanded its program by also offering consulting services to help people reintegrate into society, and a coffee shop where the homeless can spend the day.
When the Montreal Center relief team contacted the Mission and asked what the group most needed, we were told that pajamas were at the top of the list. With a contribution of US$5,007 provided by Supreme Master Ching Hai, together with US$989 from our local Association members, the team was subsequently able to purchase 683 pairs of pajamas as well as 290 warm hats.
The team then visited the Mission on Saturday, January 26, 2013, to distribute the items to those in need. The pajamas were greatly appreciated by everyone, with many conveying their thanks by saying, “I’ll feel cozy like home tonight” and “God bless you.” The team members were delighted to be able to share Supreme Master Ching Hai’s love and care with the less fortunate. The team also distributed copies of Supreme Master Ching Hai’s book From Crisis to Peace – The Organic Vegan Way is the Answer in both English and French. The recipients expressed an interest in Supreme Master Ching Hai, saying that She was very generous and kind to have thought about them.
