Jews and Arabs Unite in Israel to Speak Out for Animal Welfare

By News Group (Originally in English)

On Friday, July 24, Golden Year 12 (2015), more than 1000 Jewish and Arab animal rights activists from all around Israel united to give a voice to the voiceless, to stand up for our animal friends. Muslims, Jews, Christians, Druze, Baha’is, and religious and nonreligious of all ages came together for the gathering entitled We Are All Their Voice: Coming Together for the Animals. The event took place in the northern Israeli city of Haifa, the third largest city in the country, and was approved and supported by Haifa Mayor Yona Yahav. It culminated at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for Tolerance and Peace Square.

The three goals of the event, which was organized by Arab and Jewish vegan animal advocates Mr. Sharbel Balloutine and Mr. Shlomi Hillel, were to raise public awareness of the suffering of farm animals, to boost vegan activity in the north of Israel, and to create a large-scale event allowing the two communities to come together in full and equal collaboration.

“There is no justification for animal exploitation. If you believe that killing and inflicting unnecessary suffering is wrong, then you, too, should go vegan.” said Shlomi Hillel. “As long as they [animals] are suffering, we will continue to serve as their voice,” Sharbel Balloutine emphasized.

May all humans come together to help share this urgent message of compassion for the voiceless beings with whom we gratefully share our planet.
