Supreme Master Ching Hai’s Congratulations to India’s New President

On July 20, Golden Year 14 (2017), His Excellency Shri Ram Nath Kovind was elected as president of India, the world’s largest democratic country with more than 1.3 billion citizens.

Delivering his acceptance speech on a damp day, His Excellency reminisced about his childhood days getting soaked in the rain. He said, “There would be many such Ram Nath Kovinds who are getting drenched in the rain. Many would be working hard in farms and elsewhere to earn their livelihood in this rain. Today, I wish to tell them that Ram Nath Kovind of Paraunkh village is going to Rashtrapati Bhavan [the presidential palace] as their representative.”

Caring for the less fortunate has been a way of life for President Kovind, who himself is a farmer’s son of the historically underprivileged Dalit community. As a lawyer, he practiced for 16 years in the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court, and also provided free legal aid to society’s most vulnerable individuals. In parliament, he helped bring about greater transparency in the education system and was instrumental in having new schools built in rural Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. His Excellency is also a vegetarian who leads a frugal life.

In Her above letter to His Excellency, Supreme Master Ching Hai also notes the greatness of the Indian people.
