On January 30, Golden Year 15 (2018), Supreme Master Ching Hai congratulated His Excellency Sauli Niinistö, President of the Republic of Finland, on his re-election.
The Northern European country of Finland is known for being among the safest, best governed and freest countries in the world. Finns are very generous people, leading the Centre for Global Development to rank the country as the third best in the world for its policies that help people in less developed nations. The 2018 World Happiness Report also ranked Finland as the world’s happiest country. The country also instituted a Climate Change Act in 2015 that has set goals for both short- and long-term reduction of emissions.
Upon President Niinistö’s re-election, Supreme Master Ching Hai praised the Finnish people, including their leaders, for their dedicated work to build strong international friendships, address climate change and improve the welfare of the Finnish people.
His Excellency, who trained as a lawyer, has a long history of public service which includes holding several cabinet positions, being a member of parliament and Speaker of Parliament. As president, he is responsible for the country’s foreign policy, and has sought to improve relations with both Russia and China, while maintaining a strong relationship with the European Union. He has also championed urgent climate change mitigation, and has encouraged everyone to take part in the Citizens Climate Change campaign.
