Loving the Silent Tears: Screenings Around the World

International audiences continue to enjoy the unprecedented musical experience, “Loving the Silent Tears.

On October 27, Golden Year 9 (2012), people from the around the globe gathered at Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium for the red-carpet premier of Loving the Silent Tears. The spectacular musical was directed by Tony nominee Vincent Paterson (Michael Jackson’s and Madonna’s world tours) and choreographed by Emmy winner Bonnie Story (High School Musical 1, 2, 3).

More than 6,000 audience members were taken on a mesmerizing, spiritual voyage filled with exquisite music and dance performances representing 16 countries, and performed by a highly acclaimed cast starring two-time Grammy winner Jon Secada, and Grammy winners Jody Watley and Black Uhuru. Other performers included Tony winners Debbie Gravitte and Kiril Kulish, and Tony nominees Liz Callaway and Patti Cohenour; renowned actors Junior Case and Luke Eberl. The following singers also performed:  French singer Flo Ankah, Arab singer Camellia Abou-Odah, Aulacese (Vietnamese) singer Hồ Quỳnh Hương, Italian tenor Mark Janicello, Israeli singer Liel Kolet, Irish soprano Katie McMahon, Korean pop star Brian Joo, Korean singer Heather Park, Brazilian singer Fabiana Passoni, Persian superstar Siavash Shams, Chinese platinum pop star Kay Tse and more.

The unforgettable music inspired by Supreme Master Ching Hai’s poetry was set by a collaboration of renowned composers: two-time Oscar winner Al Kasha (“The Morning After”), six-time Grammy winner and two-time Oscar nominee Jorge Calandrelli (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), Emmy winner Doug Katsaros (ABC Afterschool Specials; music director of Footloose), two-time Grammy winner and three-time Oscar nominee Henry Krieger (Dreamgirls), Tony and Emmy winner Don Pippin (Oliver!), Grammy winner Nan Schwartz (arrangements for Natalie Cole), and Oscar and two-time Grammy winner David Shire (Saturday Night Fever).

In addition, the musical featured a deeply touching song whose lyrics and music were composed by Supreme Master Ching Hai.

Academy Award-winning actor George Chakiris (West Side Story) was a guest speaker at the grand premier, which was hosted by vegetarian and vegan celebrities: former Miss USA Susi Castillo, award-winning actor Corey Feldman (The Goonies), actor and television host Kelly Packard (Baywatch), and two-time Emmy winner Kristoff St. John (The Young and the Restless).

At the premiere, three charitable organizations: Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS, Animal Defenders International, and Worldwide Veterinary Service accepted Supreme Master Ching Hai’s contributions of US$100,000 each. These gifts were made on behalf of all Loving the Silent Tears musical artists and to honor the organizations for their kind and noble work.

Wishing to share this special one-time event with a wider audience, our Association members began holding screenings of Loving the Silent Tears* around the world. The following reports are from the events held in Formosa (Taiwan), Korea, and Âu Lạc (Vietnam).
