By Thailand Relief Team (Originally in Thai)
In the beginning of December 2016, Southern Thailand experienced severe flooding caused by heavy rainfall, which affected more than 582,000 people, claimed at least 14 lives and disrupted transportation. Following Supreme Master Ching Hai’s loving instruction to help those in need, on December 10, a team of our Thai Association members traveled to Trang Province, one of the heavily affected areas, to render relief.
On December 11, our team met with Mr. Chanwit Srisutipong, the Vice President of Na Ta Luang County. According to the information gathered, we prepared 200 packs of dried vegan food, drinking water, vegan crackers for children, clothes and THB 100 cash, using THB 57,724 (US$1,612) contributed by our fellow Thai Association members.
With kind assistance from Mr. Chanwit Srisutipong, we were able to distribute the relief packs to 26 families in the most-affected villages. The recipients were very happy, and thankful to Master for thinking of their pain and suffering. Our team would also like to express our deep gratitude to Master for Her precious teachings, and for the opportunity to lend a helping hand to our Thailand brothers and sisters. May all those affected by the flood be blessed with Heaven’s comfort and a speedy return to their normal lives.
On January 13, 2017, our Association members from Songkhla and Phang Nga provinces organized another relief effort with THB 146,370 (US$4,000) contributed by Supreme Master Ching Hai and THB 11,630 (US$328) from our local Association members. We traveled to another flood-stricken area, the Khreng Subdistrict of Cha-uat District in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, to distribute emergency supplies to the 100 families who were trapped in their houses earlier when waters had reached two or three meters high. Each family received rice, condiments, soymilk, soap and vegan snacks for the children.
Knowing that the flood had swept away the blankets and bedding materials of many families leaving them shivering in the cold nights, our team returned five days later to give out 1,000 blankets to the affected families in seven villages in Cha-uat District. All the victims were touched and thankful for the loving kindness of Supreme Master Ching Hai who sent relief aid to help them.
We pray, as our world grows in compassion with more and more people adopting the vegan diet, that disasters such as these will cease and our Earth’s climate will become calm and peaceful.
