By Bali Relief Team, Indonesia (Originally in Indonesian)
Frequent heavy rain in the district of Gerokgak, Buleleng County, in northern Bali, Indonesia, caused landslides in some villages on January 23, 2016. Penyabangan and Musi villages were the most affected. The landslides caused damage to the public infrastructure including water channels, bridges, and roads. Many houses and croplands were also damaged. There were approximately 36 families in Penyabangan Village and 50 families in Musi Village who had to be evacuated after dozens of homes were either damaged or destroyed.
Soon after the natural disaster occurred, the local government, NGOs, and the Red Cross worked together to assist the victims. They helped clean the roads, distribute food and clothing, and made repairs to the public infrastructure. Our Association members from Bali Center went to the affected villages on January 28, 2016, to distribute vegan food, clothing, toiletries and “Guidelines of Becoming Vegan” booklets. Although the victims were well cared for by many groups, our Association members still kept in touch with them in case they needed more help.
We pray that all the affected people soon get back to their normal daily lives, and may the natural beauty of the villages be preserved. We thank all groups that were very sincerely working to assist those in need.
