By India Relief Team (Originally in English)
Since May 2017, multiple states in India have been inundated with storms, heavy rains and floods. By the end of July, approximately 1.9 million people had been affected in the state of Assam, and 85 had lost their lives. Although there were relief camps and distribution centers set up, analysis showed that a large number of people had no access to food and/or safe and clean drinking water. Supreme Master Ching Hai instructed us to render aid to those in need, and generously offered US$13,658 to support our Indian Association members in distributing relief materials to the flood victims in the hardest hit villages.
On July 24, a relief team formed by our Indian Association members arrived at Guwahati, the largest city of Assam, where we met government officers for guidance and assistance. Within a week, our team prepared and distributed 1,000 relief packages containing rice, chickpeas, jaggery, biscuits, utensils, candies and sarees, etc. to the hands of those in need. Ms. Dinchangfa Boruah, ACS, Assistant Commissioner, Kaliabor, kindly helped locate the most severely affected villages in a remote part of Kaliabor in Nagaon District, approximately 190 kilometers away from Guwahati. She also called Mrs. Sangita Pujari from the local Ladies Council to help arrange the distribution of relief materials in the area of the villages of Borghuli, Bihdubi and Gakhirkhaity.
Our deep gratitude to Master for Her invisible guidance and care during this relief effort. Also, our sincere appreciation for the help of the government and local officials. We pray all victims of the heavy rain and flooding will be blessed with Heaven’s comfort.
