During the summer of 2015, North Korea experienced the worst drought in 100 years, which led to widespread damage of crops and serious concerns about future water and food shortages, as well as an increase in malnutrition among children. Hearing the devastating news and remembering Master’s loving reminder to always provide help to those in need, our Association members at Loving Hut International Company Limited and Light Light Industry Limited in Formosa quickly prepared food supplies for children. The items were purchased with TWD 885,165 (US$28,416) from Master’s relief fund, and delivered to South Pyongan Provincial Orphanages through the kind assistance from the Red Cross Society of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) in August.
The Director of the International Department at the Red Cross of DPRK expressed her heartfelt thanks for Master’s loving aid, and said the food is “contributing to the improvement of the health and nutritional condition of the children in the orphanages.” She also forwarded comments from directors of the orphanages.
Ms. Ri Sun Bok, Director of the Baby Home of South Pyongan Province, explained that the Baby Home was highly commended following a nutrition assessment done by the DPRK Ministry of Public Health. She attributed the success to the nutritional support provided by The Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association and its partners.
Mrs. Kim Myong Hui, Director of the Secondary School Orphanage in South Pyongan Province, praised the children’s physical health as a result of their diet of food supplied by The Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association, and said they had a remarkable increase in their energy levels, helping them to excel at activities such as Taekwondo, the traditional martial arts, and rhythmic gymnastics.
Our Association members were very pleased to hear that the vegan food contributed has helped the North Korean children to become healthy. We pray the severe weather will soon be lessened as humans adopt a more compassionate and peaceful lifestyle.
