Providing Flood Relief to Northern Âu Lạc Residents

During July and August 2015 in Northern Âu Lạc, torrential rainfall caused flash flooding and mudslides, bringing devastating plights to residents in the region. Fifteen provinces were seriously affected, with 32 people losing their lives and damage caused to approximately 20,000 hectares of rice paddy and crop fields. Following Supreme Master Ching Hai’s loving reminder to assist those most in need, our Association members in Âu Lạc formed a relief team, and with the US$13,000 fund provided by Master, we purchased a variety of food and supplies, including mosquito nets, blankets and clothes.

In Điện Biên Province, many homes were damaged or destroyed, and residents were also affected by crop destruction from July’s flooding which was causing famine in the region. In this province, we delivered the relief aid to the village of Pú Nhung around August 15. Despite the heavy rainfall and muddy roads, we are very grateful we were able to bring comfort to the people.

On the evening of August 16, we headed southeast to Cẩm Thủy District, Thanh Hóa Province, where many homes also collapsed and crops were ruined. Upon our arrival, we saw a crowd of people waiting for us with eager and excited faces. Altogether we distributed 100 relief packages containing food and supplies to the recipients, who expressed many thanks to Master for Her kind heart. On August 19 at the Mông Dương Ward Red Cross, we gave out another 107 relief packages to those suffering from the floods. The people were sincerely touched and appreciative.

Our relief team members are deeply grateful for Master’s compassion toward the flood victims, and for the opportunity to bring love to our brothers and sisters in need. We pray that humankind will soon be awakening to a merciful way of life to avoid future calamities.
