Once a month, German Alliance for Civilian Assistance, a non-profit organization based in Munich, sends a large truck loaded with refugee relief supplies to Chios Island, Greece. The items include food, clothing, shoes, blankets and children’s toys. Upon learning the news and following Master’s loving instruction to assist the refugees, our Munich Association members contributed 1,000 kilograms of rice, 500 kilograms of lentils and 350 kilograms of tahini (sesame seed paste) to German Alliance in February 2016. We plan to fly to Chios Island to offer personal assistance for the refugees as well.
We also learned that in order for the refugees on Chios Island to reach Germany, they have to first go to Athens and then travel through Idomeni, Greece. They then need to go through Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia and Austria by bus, train and even on foot. The tickets for the whole trip cost EUR 105 per person. For the refugees who cannot afford tickets to go to Athens, they have to wait for a few days until UNHCR-the United Nations Refugee Agency or the German Alliance are able to purchase tickets for them. Therefore, we planned to buy bus and train tickets for the disadvantaged families, so that they can reach their final destination sooner.
