By China Relief Team (Originally in Chinese)
Starting from May 17, 2014, Guangdong Province had been inundated with heavy rain, causing flooding in a number of areas within the following week. After receiving Master’s instruction to render aid, a team of our Guangdong Association members went to Dubu Township of Yangshan County in Qingyuan City to survey the disaster area.
On May 25, we loaded a jeep with rice, marinated tofu, pickled vegetables, medicine and other disaster relief items purchased by our local Association members and drove to Hankeng Village in Dubu Township. To each of the 30 to 40 households in the village, we distributed food, topical antiseptic, and medicine to treat colds. We gave some cash gifts to families with collapsed or damaged homes, as well as families requiring social welfare assistance, so they could purchase urgently needed items.
Next, we visited the community center in Shixi Village of Dubu Township, which accommodated those whose houses were damaged or collapsed and individuals who did not have relatives with which to stay. The villagers were already waiting for us when we arrived. We immediately divided the relief items into more than 30 packages and distributed them together with some cash assistance to these individuals.
On May 28, we received the news that Paitan Township in Zengcheng District in the city of Guangzhou was a hard-hit area, so we headed to Wanhe Village in Paitan Township the next day and saw many collapsed houses on the way. In preparation, we packed five boxes of various medicines which were most needed and requested by the affected people. These included vitamins, and medicines for treating babies, colds, stomach problems and external wounds; in addition, we packed 86 boxes with disinfectant cleaning powder. We also purchased and packed 50 boxes of marinated tofu. On the morning of May 31, we drove a truck and a jeep to visit Wanhe and Edou Villages, which suffered great losses. When we gave the relief items and cash gifts to the villagers, they thanked us repeatedly. Our Association members contributed RMB 50,447 (US$8,090) for this disaster relief activity, with reimbursements available from Master.
Thanks to Master’s blessing, we felt peace wherever we went. Each of the villagers we visited were like our own relatives, living in faraway places. Master’s great love was everywhere.
