Renovating Dog Homes for an Animal Shelter in Linkou District, New Taipei City
Each year, inspired by Supreme Master Ching Hai’s love, our Association members from Taipei Center show their support for homeless animals by donating dry and canned vegan dog food to an animal shelter established by the Life Welfare and Environmental Quality Association in the Linkou mountain area.
While conducting their charitable work in September 2018, our Association members found that the shelter’s dog housing had multiple holes in their roofs, corroded steel beams, and broken wooden beds. As a result, more than 70 dogs were frequently exposed to Sun and rain. Our Association members who specialised in construction and carpentry were invited to inspect the shelter and draw up a comprehensive renovation plan, which our Taipei members completed in early October.
Four of our professional brothers braved nature’s elements and traveled to the hills to fix the shelter’s dog beds, reinforce steel beams, and repair roofs and canopies. During heavy rain downpour, the brothers joined the dogs who were taking refuge under the renovated eaves. While they spent more than 20 days together, the dogs often wagged their tails and cuddled up to the brothers as if to thank them for fixing their home. The warm family-like interactions gave the brothers touching experiences of animal kindness and innocent friendship.
A sister also made sweet potato-flavored steamed buns especially for the dogs. Whenever the dogs saw her, they always wagged their tails excitedly and waited happily for their treats. The sister was deeply grateful to Master and the furry friends for helping her realise that true love and affection go beyond species and that all beings can become friends.
In order to let our members focus on the renovation project, Mr. and Mrs. Shen, who manage the animal shelter, cooked vegan meals using ingredients prepared by the brothers and enjoyed the meals with them. Through their interactions during meals, Mrs Shen, a former restaurant owner, and her husband profoundly understood the meaning of veganism. They expressed the hope that the peaceful vegan diet will bring good health and harmony to all people.
On October 31, 2018, Madam Liu Shiang-lan, Board Director of the Life Welfare and Environmental Quality Association, presented a certificate of appreciation to our members at the animal shelter to thank The Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association for its contribution and care for homeless animals.
We are deeply grateful that through Master’s blessing we had the opportunity to repair dozens of dog homes, enhance the rooftops and structures, and provide a safe and comfortable home for the dogs that could withstand rain and typhoons.
Winter Care for Animal Shelters in Taipei and New Taipei
In January 2019, our Taipei Center members launched a winter care campaign for our furry friends, bringing used clothing, blankets and vegan dog food donated by our fellow initiates to animal shelters.
Located in Wugu District, New Taipei City, the Amity Animal Conservation Association of Chinese accommodates approximately 300 dogs in its shelter. Its owner, Mr. Wang, makes sure that all of the dogs at the shelter are vaccinated and neutered. However, he needed urgent assistance as he had been paying all the expenses himself. On January 7, we contributed 20 x 20kg packs of vegan dog food, 12 large bags of blankets, four packs of vegan greenies, and a box of used clothes. After signing for the contributions, the shelter administrator, Ms. Chen, thanked the Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association for its love and care.
Ms. Lai Yu-Hua runs a stray dog shelter near the MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) Beitou Depot in Taipei City, covering all the expenses for the 50-plus dogs at the shelter, including food, neutering and medical care. On January 7, we donated three large bags of blankets, five 20kg packs of vegan dog food, and one pack of vegan greenies. Ms. Lai repeatedly expressed her gratitude to The Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association for its assistance to the furry friends. She said that the five packs of dog food will relieve the food shortage and ease the pressure she had been feeling.
Three months after the October 2018 dog house renovation for an animal shelter in Linkou District, New Taipei City, on January 10, 2019 our Association members prepared five 20kg packs of vegan dry dog food, one box of vegan canned dog food, one pack of vegan greenies for 80 dogs, and a dog bed for old and handicapped dogs. On behalf of the dogs, the shelter administrators, Mr. and Mrs. Shen, expressed their appreciation for such long-term love and care from The Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association.
We wish all of our furry friend’s peace and happiness as they bask in God’s love and mercy.
