By Hong Kong and Sichuan Relief Teams, China (Originally in Chinese)
On July 10, 2013, a large landslide took place in Sanxi Village, Zhongxin Town, Dujiangyan, Sichuan Province, due to the worst rainstorms in 50 years. Eleven homes were destroyed, approximately 44 people had been confirmed dead and 117 were reported missing.
Expressing deep concern, Supreme Master Ching Hai quickly provided US$10,887 and asked our Association members to render assistance. On July 16, three of our Hong Kong Association members arrived at Chengdu city and joined the local relief team. To comfort the children in Dujiangyan, the most severely struck district, we brought gift packages, including items such as undergarments, shoes, socks and toys. We also evaluated the situation in Ya’an, Dujiangyan, and Baoxin and came up with a plan to deliver urgently needed goods and materials as soon as the road condition improved.
Unfortunately, another large landslide occurred in Caopo Township in Sichuan Province on July 22, destroying 28 houses and 6.6 hectares of farmland. More than 3,400 residents were impacted, but no casualties were reported. Local media claimed that this was a miracle! The government dispatched soldiers to help evacuate villagers.
A local village leader told us what supplies were needed, and we worked non-stop for days to purchase four tons of supplies with Master’s contribution, make packages and load them on trucks.
In the early morning of July 28, we drove on the muddy roads and delivered the supplies to a government organization named “Earthquake Prevention and Disaster Relief Bureau” and asked them to distribute to the displaced people in the nearby temporary shelter. The organization presented a letter of appreciation in return.
All of our relief team members felt the grace of Master along the way. We pray for God’s mercy to help the affected people, giving them comfort and love!
