By Illinois, USA Relief Team (Originally in English)
On April 9, 2015, a large tornado struck northern Illinois, USA with the towns of Fairdale and Rochelle being most severely affected. Two people lost their lives in Fairdale, where the damage was devastating.
Remembering Master’s loving instruction to always help those most vulnerable in times of need, our Association members quickly formed a relief team and set out to the affected areas the next morning with relief supplies, including energy bars, water, hygiene items, warm blankets, socks, undergarments, work gloves and flashlights.
Upon arriving in Fairdale, we discovered that the road to the disaster site was temporarily closed as police were trying to locate missing residents. Our team then brought the supplies to the nearby Kirkland Community Fire Department, which had been converted into a receiving center for relief items.
In Rochelle, where about 30 homes were destroyed or badly damaged by the tornado, we learned that the three displaced people who had stayed at a Red Cross shelter the night before had found accommodations with friends.
Our relief team was deeply grateful to Master for the opportunity to share God’s love with our brethren in Illinois.
