By Hungary Relief Team (Originally in Hungarian)
During the summer 2015, a large number of refugees crossed the south border of Hungary. Many of them did not go to official refugee camps, so they were in desperate need of basic care, such as food, shelter and medical aid. Several civil volunteer groups were quickly formed and started to collect donations and distribute food and necessities to the refugees. Responding to our beloved Master’s instruction to help those in need, our Hungarian Association members also formed a relief team and provided assistance to the refugees from September to October 2015. In addition to the efforts in September 2015 included in our last report, we carried out the following activities in October 2015. These October relief efforts were funded with US$6,260 provided by Master and US$11,260 provided by our Association members around the world.
To help the refugees who had been stranded for many days at Keleti Train Station in Budapest, we made them vegan sandwiches. To delight the refugees with food that is familiar to them, we ordered hummus from a company named Bezula Kft, which generously offered us 715 cans of hummus for free. Then we bought 100 kilograms of sliced bread and made 1,500 sandwiches with the help of SEM (Segítsünk Együtt – Let’s Help the Refugees Together), a civil aid group, and distributed them. That day, every refugee at the station received wholesome vegan food and all of our relief team members and the volunteers were thankful to be able to help.
We also assisted a couple who rented a two-bed room apartment for nine of their extended family members who arrived from Syria. We offered HUF 150,000 (US$550) to pay for their rent for one month and bought them food. Other Association members also contributed vegan food, daily necessities and cash. One of them even put together a computer from spare parts for the family. We gave them a CD of some of Master’s teachings, a copy of Master’s book, The Dogs in My Life, and a Loving the Silent Tears DVD as well. The family was very happy and grateful. We plan to give them more support in the future. In addition, we sent cash assistance to a Hungarian lady married in Syria to help her come home.
Our deep gratitude to Master for Her generous financial support, loving care and blessing. We thank our fellow Association members for their financial support. May Heaven bless all people with a peaceful and happy life.
