By Syria Relief Team (Originally in Arabic)
As the war in Syria has continued to cause extremely difficult conditions for the last six years, especially for the displaced people there, the city of Sweida has received large numbers of citizens from other areas in the country, especially Aleppo and Damascus. The flow of displaced people has increased recently due to the escalation of conflict in the outskirts of both cities. Thankfully, Sweida has remained intact and has not been greatly affected by the war, so it has become a safe refuge for the sick, the wounded as well as orphans and families who lost their loved ones.
To provide aid to these vulnerable individuals and convey Supreme Master Ching Hai’s love, our Association members in Singapore contributed US$20,000 to assist our Syria team’s relief efforts. Upon receiving the generous fund in September 2016, our local team immediately went to work. By November, we had contributed US$5,000 for hospital care for those in need, with US$2,000 covering medical treatment for five children with cancer and US$3,000 for various surgeries. We spent US$15,000 on buying basic food items, such as oil, flour, vermicelli, bulgur, rice and beans, for 500 families in need and many orphans. In addition, our Association members in Greece sent us U$$1,000, which was used to purchase traditional bread and vegan sweets for children in the camps of displaced citizens.
We are deeply grateful to Master that we were able to provide some help to those suffering. May all those affected by the conflict in Syria be blessed with Heaven’s comfort as we pray for peace in the country and the world.
