Helping Neighbors to Clean Up Route Miao-28 in Formosa

By Formosa News Group (Originally in Chinese)

At the end of each year, every family in Formosa cleans up their environment thoroughly and redecorates their home. Before New Year’s Eve, residents of Hsihu Township prepared to clean up public areas. Route Miao-28 is a shortcut between Miaoli City and Hsihu Township. It is also part of the bicycle route for a national competition. Along the route, there are beautiful mountain views and winding roads, providing picturesque scenery for residents in Hsihu Township. Due to its small population, the township does not have enough people to clean up the route. In the past, our Association members volunteered to trim the grass and shrubs and clean drainage ditches. Starting this year, our Association members will work with Hsihu Township Office and participate in four major cleaning events every year.

On February 8, 2015, a day for group meditation in Hsihu Ashram, about 200 of our Association members from many Centers headed to route Miao-28 to clean up the fallen leaves in the ditches and on the roadside. Working together, our Association members from different Centers cleaned up our assigned areas. Arriving in a tour bus, our Association members from Kaohsiung and Pingtung worked quickly to clean up the ditches. Seeing many sharp leaves on the palm trees that were at risk of being broken off as a result of the blowing wind, they climbed to the top of the bus and cut off a dozen old leaves so that no passerby would get hurt. After over an hour, piles of yellow leaves disappeared and the ditches were restored to their original clean state.

The hills and the winding road of route Miao-28 displayed such pure beauty and tranquility. Our Association members smiled happily and then carried all the tools back to Hsihu Ashram and continued group meditation!
