Lifeguards from all over Greece – Hellenic Association of Lifeguards. They have been here watching refugee boats in Lesbos, Greece for 15 days and want to stay until the end of the crisis if their donation allows. They said “We are here to save lives no matter what color or where from.” November 2015

More than half a million life jackets are left in Lesbos, Greece. A Dutch group is reselling them in the Netherlands and donating the funds raised to the refugee camp, PIKPA. One person is making them into wallets and women’s bags. November 2015

We drove up the east coast of Lesbos, Greece to see other camps and boat landing places to assess the situation. We went to Mantamados where there is a very well-organized official transit camp for refugees landing in the north of the island. There is no registration for refugees here but there are many large tents, food, doctors, advice and information about the rest of their journey through Greece and beyond. Buses take refugees to the major camps where they need to go to register. November 16, 2015

We continued north to Skala Sikamineas where we saw a very well-organized camp. They did not need anything apart from some fresh fruits for that day. November 16, 2015
We went to the most northern tip of Lesbos, Greece, which is closest to Turkey where many refugees are coming from. There is a small lighthouse there which signals that it is a dangerous place for boats, but the refugees see it as a place to land. Especially at night, they aim for this area. We went down to the lighthouse and on the way down we passed many refugees walking up the steep slope. They need to walk at least seven kilometers to the main road. November 16, 2015
The refugees were in good spirits although they were very hot and needed water. We gave whatever supplies we had to them. November 16, 2015
Also, on our way to the lighthouse, we met some volunteers from the Youth with A Mission organization who were about to leave when we spotted four boats approaching the rocks. We worked together to help these boats to land safely and assisted the refugees in climbing up the cliff. November 16, 2015
